Ai Group welcomes the release of Infrastructure Australia’s 2019 Infrastructure Audit

“Infrastructure Australia’s audit points both to successes and shortcomings in the approaches to Australia’s economic and social infrastructure. Notwithstanding the impressive current pipeline of projects, the Audit points to the need for further investment, more farsighted planning and better coordination,” Ai Group Chief Executive, Innes Willox, said.

“It points to opportunities and challenges in the areas of passenger and freight transport, energy, social infrastructure, telecommunications and water.

“While it will take some time to digest the Audit in consultation with our membership – which includes both users and providers of infrastructure services – we welcome in particular its emphasis on the development of capacity to plan for and provide infrastructure services and the importance it attaches to the development of relevant workforce skills and public sector expertise. The audit also points to the scope to improve the transparency and effectiveness of procurement arrangements between government agencies and industry.

“The attention the Audit gives to energy is also very welcome as are its suggestions to improve policy certainty and coordination across jurisdictions and the importance it attaches to a less constrained approach to the development of gas supplies for the domestic market,” Mr Willox said.
