CIMIC’s CPB Contractors to deliver South Australia’s Tram Grade Separation Projects

The Federal and South Australian governments have selected CIMIC Group company CPB Contractors to deliver the Tram Grade Separation Projects, in an alliance with McConnell Dowell, Mott MacDonald, ARUP, and Aurecon.

The Tram Grade Separation Projects aim to enhance the safety, efficiency, and reliability of transport along the tram line from Adelaide’s CBD to Glenelg. Key modifications include upgrades to the South Road overpass to support the River Torrens to Darlington Project.

The project, valued at approximately $212.8 million, will generate significant revenue for CPB Contractors. It is expected to support economic growth in South Australia, reduce travel times, and promote sustainable, low-emission transport options.

The scope of work includes tram overpasses at Marion Road, Cross Road, and Morphett Road, tram depot upgrades at Glengowrie, a temporary tram maintenance depot on Peacock Road, and signalling upgrades. The project also aims to create new public spaces for the community.

Site investigations are currently underway, with major construction set to begin in late 2024. The level crossings are expected to be removed by the end of 2025.
