Bringing the Hamptons style to everyday Australians

The Hamptons style is becoming increasingly popular for homes nationwide, particularly as it suits the Australian climate. Nowhere is it more at home than in Queensland, as the population lives on the coast. The Hamptons look is reminiscent of the style of Queensland homes, making it easy to showcase in suburbs that value traditional character and heritage.

Located at Broadbeach Waters, Queensland, the New Hampshire 33 display home by Coral Homes exudes the Hamptons charm while redefining the spatial and design boundaries this expansive style can have, as it fits comfortably in a 10m wide block.

As property sizes shrink and smaller homes become the new norm, Australians are looking to build affordable and stylish homes which maximise living space. Designed and built by Coral Homes, the impressive New Hampshire 33 makes use of every inch of space and still feels spacious, despite its modest width. Its open plan layout embodies the spaciousness of the Hamptons look, while giving it a contemporary Australian twist.

“We decided to create New Hampshire 33 as a modern Hamptons take on the Queenslander and Australian Federation style homes,” says Angela Haughton, National Display and Design Manager at Coral Homes. “The interpretation combines a love of entertaining, coastal living that can be seen in here and America and adds, cleaner lines and scales back ornamentation to meet Australian tastes.”

The properties are truly part of the evolving Australian Hamptons trend thanks to James Hardie Linea™ Weatherboards which dominate the aesthetic. It was used on the exterior and coated in Dulux Dieskau. Linea Weatherboards are also used on planter boxes and two panel feature walls to create a sense of continuity throughout the property. Linea Weatherboards have become an Australian staple made from thick boards of premium fibre cement that create deep, defined shadow lines that evoke the texture of shingles used in the U.S.

“Cladding is a staple when building a Hamptons home that meets the needs of modern-day Australians. We used the Linea Weatherboards because of the crisp lines and deep shadows they produce. Not only are Linea Weatherboards easy to install, but they’re resistant to warping, flaking and damage from moisture and fire, so they hold the look longer and are easier to maintain in the long-term,” Angela continues.

Remarkably, the use of Linea Weatherboards also eliminated the need for 150mm of cavity and brick work on each wall, enabling Coral Homes to maximise floorspace. This was key to making the property feel open and liveable.

The generous indoor-outdoor integration in this home is a key feature of the Hamptons look, while tying into the Australian lifestyle. By opening up the rear of the home through French double stackers doors from the kitchen to the HardieDeck™ alfresco area and pool surround, the living areas feel more open. HardieDeck decking creates a seemingly continuous flooring out into the garden and plunge pool. These elements work in harmony to showcase a classic Hamptons aesthetic.

“The HardieDeck system was used as it is the ideal choice for coastal living. Made from premium fibre cement, it’s an attractive decking solution with environmental durability that reduces the high maintenance needed with a traditional timber deck,” says Angela.

Inside New Hampshire 33, classic vertical joint panelling gives subtle detail in the cosy media room and master bedroom, perfectly matching the coastal exterior. HardieGroove™ Lining was used as a feature wall for the bed to rest against, forming a sophisticated sanctuary. The elegant feature wall was painted in a classic

Hamptons soft coastal blue hue, acting as a striking contrast to the neutral palette flowing into the master ensuite.

“Using James Hardie products throughout the New Hampshire 33 allows the Hamptons style in the home to feel consistent and well considered. They complement the Hamptons design style, while offering durability and space-saving qualities, that helped the home truly make the most of its size. They will help our new owners turn the property into a dream home, safe in the knowledge that it’s going to last,” says Angela.
