Tasmania builders were big winners at the National Excellence in Building and Construction Awards with Fairbrother, Valley Workshop and Davies Construction each recognised on the national stage.

Fairbrother Construction won the National Commercial/Industrial Award $20M – $50M for their landmark Mona Pharos project.

“The ambition, and consequent difficulty of this project is outrageous, yet Fairbrother Construction has found a way to achieve the desired outcome without compromise,” Denita Wawn, CEO of Master Builders Australia said.

“As a visitor it is easy to be distracted from the sheer difficulty of the building tasks undertaken here, every part is unique and extremely difficult. Fairbrother Construction is to be congratulated on having achieved this outstanding end result,” Denita Wawn said.

Valley Workshop took out the National Environment and Energy Efficiency Commercial Building Award for their Lake Tahune, Frenchmans Cap project.

“Challenging sites can often be the catalyst for innovative solutions, which was certainly the case with this project by Valley Workshop,” Denita Wawn said.

“Located in the Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers National Park at around 1000m above sea level, the Lake Tahune project site falls easily within the alpine Climate Zone of the National Construction Code,” she said.

“Well insulated building fabric, triple glazing and good building sealing are essential here and have been delivered via a novel panelised construction system that was able to be flat-packed and helicoptered in to provide a remote area building with a high degree of user comfort. The judges were most impressed,” Denita Wawn said.

National Project Home under $350,000 was awarded to Davies Construction with the national judges impressed by the unique details of the build and the builder’s outstanding attention to detail.
