The Victorian Government is helping more people buy their dream home, with thousands of first home buyers spared millions of dollars in stamp duty costs over the past financial year.
MATES in Construction Western Australia has been provided with more than $520,000 in grants from the WA Government through Lotterywest and the Mental Health Commission.
“Prior to COVID-19, population growth had already fallen well below expectations as overseas migration and the natural rate of population growth fell. Left unchecked, this will lead to more subdued building activity over the decade ahead,” stated HIA’s Chief Economist, Tim Reardon.
The WA Government has announced a record $2 million in grants to support local businesses secure contract opportunities, more than doubling last year’s (2019) funding and supporting the WA Recovery Plan initiatives.
“Restrictions on building sites in Victoria that limit trades people to just three sites a week could leave thousands of average Victorians and their families out in the cold during the remaining weeks of winter, and longer, Executive Director HIA Fiona Nield said.
“With two months of data since the introduction of the Australian Government’s HomeBuilder scheme it is increasingly clear that HomeBuilder has arrested the decline in New Home Sales and will protect jobs in the sector into 2021,” commented HIA Chief Economist, Tim Reardon.

“Housing finance figures released today (August 5 2020) show that home buyers were tentatively returning to the market in June (2020) in response to the initial easing of COVID-19 related restrictions and the announcement of the HomeBuilder program,” commented HIA Senior Economist, Geordan Murray.
